"WARRIOR FIGHT NIGHT 5"
September 28th, 2014 - Birmingham, England
IKF
EUROPEAN MTR LIGHT CRUISERWEIGHT TITLE
Carlos De Grace (Westhoughton,
England, 12-2-1, 84.0kg, 6'2", 06-25-86, Daz Morris 00447880332596)
VS
Josh Quin (Torquay, England,
6-2, 84.1kg, 6'3", 10-09-87, Kris Bartas 00447903382212)
WINNER: CARLOS DE GRACE by KO at 2:30 of round
3.
JOSH QUINN RECEIVES 45
DAY IKF MEDICAL SUSPENSION UNTIL 12TH NOVEMBER 2014
This contest was an explosive encounter from the opening bell. De Grace was the more experienced but Quin was the new sensation who had quickly stepped up to European level with some excellent wins, including a recent victory over world rated Roma Da Silva. Both men came out looking for elbow strikes early but it was De Grace who struck first, opening up an early cut on Quins forehead. The trade offs were fantastic with the whole variety of low kicks, knee strikes and punch combinations being used evenly.
Although he was more than capable Quin had moments of looking as though he was a little overwhelmed by the occasion and De Grace took full advantage. He did, however pay the price anumber of times, walking onto strong combinations. Even so the action was mainly equal and you could not have argued with the scoring either way.
From the start of the second round De Grace stepped up and although Quin went with him he was always a short pace behind. Heavy shots from all angles connected and both men were feeling the effect of the low kicks. Towards the end of the round De Grace was in charge but certainly not out of danger.
Despite the danger from Quin you had the feeling that the third would be a pivotal moment. De Grace opened up with more and more elbows and knees and Quin could not go with him. He took two counts and a third saw referee Tom Ashe wave the contest off. This was an excellent title contest, and despite the experience difference, Josh Quin showed that he is in that league. Unfortunately for him Carlos De Grace showed that he is ready for even bigger things. Watch this space!
IKF ENGLISH MTR (Mod) LIGHT MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE
George Worthington (Bournemouth,
England, 7-1, 72.0kg, 5'10", 08-16-93, Sert 00447438430792)
VS
Rob Hayward (Guilford, England, 6-6-1,
72.0kg, 5'11", 04-01-84, Jesse Saunders 00447870626559)
WINNER: GEORGE WORTHINGTON by KO at 1:44 of round 2.
Rob Hayward RECEIVES 30 DAY IKF MEDICAL SUSPENSION
UNTIL 12TH NOVEMBER 2014
Controversy and fantastic sportsmanship alike surrounded this awesome contest. The skills of both men were out of this world as they both put on a pure Muay Thai display for an appreciative audience. Everything about this contest, including the manner of the fighters oozed class. Great clinchwork and kick grabbing, solid kicking and explosive punch combinations. The traditional feeling out process was observed by both men to produce an even first round and in the second both men stepped up a gear, continuing the even feel. This was always going to be a difficult job for the judges.
Worthingtons clinch was stronger but Hayward compensated with his hands and low kicks. Towards the end of the round a solid knee connected with Haywards mid section and Worthington followed through with a knee to the head. Unfortunately Hayward was already touching canvas.
Hayward did not make the count and was unable to continue. The Chief official moved towards a reluctant disqualification but Hayward, now on his feet intervened, stating that it was the knee to the body that had caused the damage and that the follow up had only glanced. Worthington was awarded the belt but Hayward has to be commended for his honesty.

VS
Paul Williams (Bournemouth,
England, 7-3-2, 85.5kg, 6', 06-10-86, Ross Phillips, 004475965514348)
Andreij
Manzolo did just what he had to in retaining the title against the man he
took it from earlier this year. The much anticipated re-match saw both men
insisting that the scorecards would not be needed but when it came to it neither
man comitted enough to make that happen.
Williams clearly wanted to stick and move to prevent Manzolo
from spoiling but for much of the contest he cam up short with the shots. Manzolo
on the other hand did less work but it all counted. You cold have argued with
giving Williams a share of the first and third rounds but at the end of
the day Manzolo did what was required, and much as he tried, Williams
could not pin him down. A unanimous decision to, and still champion Andreij
Manzolo.
WINNER: Andreij Manzolo by unanimous
decision 50-45, 49-46, 49-48.

Lily Priggs

WINNER: Amy Campbell by RSF 1:58 round 1
Lily Priggs receives 30 day medical suspension until 26th
May 2014.
The previously unbeaten Priggs arrived in a confident mood for this title clash and wasted no time in taking the fight to Campbell. The action was fast and furious but it quickly became clear that Campbell knew how to use her 6" height advantage as she began to dismantle Priggs. Every shot from both fighters landed and it was just a question of who would fold first. Campbell looked control and stepped up the pace even more as the round drew to a close. After inflicting a count on Priggs it was clear that the Watford girl had had enough. The referee called the fight off and Amy Campbell was declared the new champion.

VS
Jo Hodgkinson
(Christchurch,
Bournemouth, 4-3, 63.6kg, 5'10", 4-28-88, Ross Phillips, 00447581467770)
Sarah Worsford arrived to defend the title that she had previously snatched from Clara Norman. The two losses on Jo Hodgkinson were both to Norman but her form had improved since with 4 wins. This was another contest that was well worthy of the title tag. Worsford totally dominated the early stages as Hodgkinson struggled to get to grips with the pressure. In fact the first 3 rounds were clear for the champion despite the fact that Hodgkinson began to get to grips with things, displaying great footwork and skills but just not doing enough. By the 4th Worsford had started to fade and Hodgkinson's fitness saw her dominate with great combinations and work rate. The final round looked to edge towards Hodgkinson with 2 out of 3 judges scoring in her favor. But it wasn't enough and despite a game effort, the title remains with Sarah Worsford.
